MARIE'S LIFE & FAMILY LIFE

Manya Salome Sklodowska, as her family called her, was born on November 7, 1867 in a school house on 16 Freta Street in Warsaw, Poland. Manya's mother, Bronislawa, was the eldest daughter in a family of country squires. She was the headmistress of the girl's school and taught music. Manya's father, Valdislav, was the son of a man who directed a boy's school in Lublin. Mayna's father taught physics and math in a boy's school several blocks away. The school house at 16 Freta Street has now become a museum dedicated to Manya's early years and her contributions to science.
